A simple sentence that best summarizes the biography of Vocal Slender is ‘Your Glory is tied to your Story.’

In April 2011, the United Kingdom was gripped by the amazing BBC Welcome to Lagos documentary series which brought to light a man who was born and brought up in the most popular Nigerian ghetto: Ajegunle, aka AJ city. His name is Eric Obuh, aka ’Vocal Slender’. He had a double identity: A scavenger by day and a musician by night.

The TV series unearthed the doggedness in the African spirit where Vocal slender exemplified rare survival instincts in the midst of poverty, violence and uncertainty concerning his welfare and musical career. As a decade-long scavenger (from 2000 to 2010), Vocal Slender worked endlessly picking and selling scraps in a major dump in the city of Lagos, Nigeria so he could fund his dream of becoming an international superstar, and finally all his hard work has paid off.

After the BBC documentary, various promoters came his way and on 4th September 2010, he performed for over 6,000 at the London O2 Arena where fans and admirers of his thought-provoking story danced to his numerous tracks, including his hit track Owo yapa (meaning Too-much money) rendered in the documentary and which had hundreds of thousand views on YouTube. Vocal Slender is also a multiple awards winner ranging from music and charity links.

Vocal Slender is an Afro Pop/ Dancehall/ Reggae artist with a flair for hip hop and R&B. His songs are expected to help Africans look within themselves to generate the spirit of total liberation from every social vices that has held them back. His turbulent childhood provoked him to instituting projects that make him give back to Ghetto children and youths through his "Ghetto Love" initiative, where clothes, food and love are given to deprived children.

Vocal Slender visits schools and gatherings to inspire people with his story and to encourage them never to hit the brakes on their life goals. He is fond of saying: “If I can, then YOU CAN.”

Vocal Slender was born on 1st December in the early 80s in Lagos, Nigeria and had his formal education up to secondary school before he had to stop because of financial constraints.
